Songstead is a tool for managing chord charts, setlists, and shared music libraries. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it's handled. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

Information you provide

When you create an account and use the app, we store:

• Your email address and any name you provide, used to identify your account and sign you in.
• The content you create: songs, chord charts, sets, and groups, along with the people you invite to them.

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are handled by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card details go directly to Stripe — Songstead never sees or stores your full card number. We keep only limited billing records: your plan and subscription status, a short description of your payment method (like the card brand and last four digits), and your invoice history.

Information collected automatically

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. It's required for the app to work and isn't used for advertising or tracking you across other sites.

We use an error-tracking service (Sentry) to catch bugs and crashes. When something goes wrong, it may capture technical details like your browser, the page you were on, and a limited, sampled replay of on-screen activity to help us reproduce the issue. This exists to fix problems, not to monitor you.

How we use information

• To operate the app: storing and displaying your songs, sets, and groups, and enforcing who has access to what.
• To process payments and manage your subscription, if you're on a paid plan.
• To communicate with you about your account, such as invitations to a group or important changes to the service.
• To find and fix bugs.

Who we share information with

We use a few trusted companies to run Songstead. They only handle your information to provide their service to us:

• Stripe processes payments and securely stores card details for paid plans.
• Sentry helps us catch bugs and crashes.
• Our hosting provider stores the app and its data.

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with third parties for advertising.

Sharing within groups

Groups are a core part of the app. If you join a group, the songs and sets shared in that group are visible to other members according to their role. If you create a group, content you share into it becomes visible to the members you invite. This is expected behavior, not a data leak — it's how the sharing feature works.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account or data deleted, email contact@songstead.app and we'll take care of it.

We may keep limited billing and transaction records after that when we need them for legal, tax, or accounting reasons.

Your rights and choices

You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information at any time — just email contact@songstead.app. Depending on where you live, you may have these rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA, and we honor them for everyone.

Children

Songstead isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If a teacher or group owner invites students, they're responsible for having any permission that's needed. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We're a small, early-stage project, so we'd rather be straightforward with you than bury changes in fine print.
